Philosophical Argument: Musical Piracy

My brother and I always seem to find our way into deep conversation about the world whenever he's around. The last discussion we had was about how illegally downloading music shouldn't be illegal because there's a glaring double standard when you look at music as if it was an art form (and it is) instead of a form of entertainment.

My Philosophical Argument For The Piracy of Music

(1) Music is a form of art.

(2) A painting is a form of art.

(3) A painting can be downloaded off the internet and viewed.

(4) A piece of music can be downloaded off the internet and listened to.

(5) However, downloading a painting is legal, while downloading certain pieces of music is illegal.

(6) If both a painting and a piece of music are considered art, then they should both be treated equally.

(7) Therefore, it should either be legal or illegal to download forms of art off the internet.

(8) If downloading a painting is not illegal, then downloading a piece of music is justified.

In a nutshell, downloading a painting should become illegal or music piracy is justified. It's not theft.

Albany Gets Greedy: New Yorkers Will Pay "Amazon Tax"

The goons up in Albany have passed a bill that will allow the state to charge the good ol' sales tax we know and love on purchases made online. Gov. Paterson is expected to sign it into law shortly.

If I'm not mistaken, it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL to levy a tax on a purchase not made in the state that it was bought. To clear that up: I'm in New York. I buy a product online that is distributed from California. If I lived it Cali, I'd have to pay a sales tax, but because I'm not, I don't.

Gov. Paterson, I plea, NO NEW TAXES... especially ones that go against the very article that this country was built on...

Spring Awakening

No, this is not a review of the Broadway play. It's another good ol' fashioned filling of the blog. If you haven't guessed it yet, this is a blog filler entry. However, if you read, maybe you'll learn something... about me.

It's spring again! Now, while Spring is NOT favorite season, it does bring with it some of my favorite times of weather: warmer mornings (walking out into subfreezing temperatures, regardless of what you're wearing to keep warm, at 8 in the morning is not my idea of a "good morning"), warmer temperatures, warmer evenings, and THUNDERSTORMS (oh yes, nothing can beat a strong springtime storm). Oh, did I mention it gets warmer?

I'm not a fan of cold weather. I'll take extreme heat over extreme cold any day and anytime. Besides, it's easier to cool off than to warm up... at least in my experiences with unruly temperatures. If you disagree and love the cool side of the pillow, then what is the problem? I, for one, would like the cool side of the pillow on a cold winter night. Sure, the heat might be on full blast, but it's not the same when you're running from the heat like Albert Gonzales (horrible and late political "zing").

In other news, I've got plans for this blog. It contains the words "digital" and "video". Hopefully, equipment permitting, I'll have my very first video blog entry up sooner than later, but don't hold me to it!
