All men's souls are immortal, but the souls of the righteous are immortal and divine. - Socrates

So I was bored one day and got to thinking. Just thinking. An interesting thought crossed my mind and it dawned on me: Humans are immortal.

I believe the death of a human. The complete cessation of a human is when the soul is destroyed. The body may die, but the soul lives on, correct? If you believe in an afterlife, then would that mean the soul continues once the body has rotted away? Since the soul of the human is still intact, then the human is technically immortal. That is, if the definition of "immortal" allows this.

It does.

immortal (a.)
1 : exempt from death

The human soul is exempt from death if there is an afterlife.

THEREFORE, if there is a life after death, then humans are immortal. We may considered mortal in this reality, but that does not mean we are mortal in some other reality: the afterlife.
